The Toyota Camry Solara is a 2-door, up to 5-passenger, compact coupe and convertible available in four trims, ranging from the SE to the SLE Convertible. The Toyota Camry Solara's closest competitors include the Honda Accord, Pontiac Grand Am and Oldsmobile Alero.

Upon introduction, the Toyota Camry Solara SE is equipped with a standard 2.2-liter, I4, 135-horsepower engine that consumes 23-mpg in the city and 32-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, while a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard. The Camry Solara SLE Convertible is equipped with a standard 3.0-liter, V6, 200-horsepower engine that consumes 19-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. An adaptive 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The convertible trims are all-new for 2000, otherwise the Toyota Camry Solara is a carryover from 1999. Changes include a new audio system, added colors and a new front fascia and bumper design.
