The Toyota Corolla is a 4-door, 5-passenger, compact sedan available in three trims, ranging from the VE to the LE. The Toyota Corolla's closest competitors include the Dodge Neon, Ford Focus, Pontiac Sunfire and Honda Civic. According to Toyota, the Corolla is "intended to mix quality, style and economy."

Upon introduction, all trims are equipped with a standard 1.8-liter, I4, 125-horsepower engine that consumes 31-mpg in the city and 38-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard on all trims. The Toyota Corolla VE features an optional 3-speed automatic transmission, while the Corolla's CE and LE feature an optional 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
